AI Reshapes Corporate Communication as Governments Race to Regulate

It’s no secret that Artificial Intelligence (AI) is revolutionizing the way companies operate and communicate, and it has now risen to the top of government and corporate agendas in many countries.
A month ago, the EU shared guidelines on the misuse of AI by employers, websites and police and, more recently, committed to channelling over $200 billion into artificial intelligence investments in a bid to compete with the US and China. The first rules under the EU’s Artificial Intelligence Act (AI Act) started to apply on Sunday 2 February. This includes the AI system definition, AI literacy, as well as a very limited number of prohibited AI use cases that are deemed to pose unacceptable risks in the EU.
In a recent speech during the Mobile World Congress, the Chairman of the US Federal Communication Commission (FCC), warned that AI cannot be developed with “ideological bias”, and that he will defend American companies if Europe takes “protectionist regulations”.
Ideological bias”, and that he will defend American companies if Europe takes “protectionist regulations.
While there is much discussion and debate about the subject internationally, the UAE has fully embraced the technology with a clear goal of becoming a leading nation in this critical sector. The UAE’s leadership is actively integrating AI across key sectors to improve quality of life and stimulate economic growth. While the government continues to increase its investments in AI/technology and build on its public/private partnerships, AI is currently being integrated across critical sectors such as education, healthcare, transportation, and energy to enhance performance, operational efficiency, and national innovation.
While governments around the world deal with the integration and adoption of AI at their own pace, private sector companies have already integrated AI, not only in how they operate, but also how they communicate. A recent industry survey conducted by Cision and PRWeek which was released in February (The 2025 Comms Report), provided insights from over 300 communications professionals across North America on the industry’s relationship with data/analytics and the progress of AI.
The results clearly indicate that AI’s integration into communications processes has reached an acceleration point. 90% of the respondents said that that they integrate AI into their communication strategies and 63% said that their company has an AI policy/strategy in place to ensure the effective use of AI in the workforce. Additionally, 65% claim AI is significantly enhancing data and analytics and 37% said that their respective organization has developed/created at least one proprietary AI tool for its own use or its customers’ use.
In our view, AI presents an unprecedented opportunity to work smarter and produce insight more rapidly. But there are many pitfalls too…overuse of AI will make content more generic, less authentic and unique, so best practice must take both the risks and the opportunities with AI into consideration.
