The human side of sustainability drives business performance

Social engagement creates real opportunities for companies to go beyond the E of ESG. The S is often overshadowed, yet social policies that are sustainable over the long-term are essential for the good management of any organisation and the necessary foundation for environmental sustainability.

It’s all about harnessing the power of human capital, whether that’s employees, stakeholders or the people you share your community with, to become a better business.

That was the summary of the recent conference, “How Human Side of Sustainability Drives Business Performance”, that we hosted together with CCIG and the Bevel ON association.

Some observations clearly stood out from the speeches and panel discussions during the conference:

1. Public private partnerships are necessary to drive lasting change.

2. Economic and financial growth can only be achieved with social sustainability programmes.

3. Blended finance models enable scaling up of initiatives.

4. Social responsibility has to be part of any core business strategy.

5. Effective strategies need to take into account regional and local specifics.

6. Corporate governance and ESG requirements encourage innovation in communication and engagement.

7. Social responsibility brings consumer trust and employee retention.
