How sustainable are health-focused NGOs?
The linkages between environment and health are obvious. Climate change, loss of biodiversity and air pollution all impact negatively human environment and contribute to disease burden.
And that’s just the beginning. At the same time, sustainability and the broader ESG agenda are major concerns for donors and stakeholders. That raises a question of how nonprofit organisations working in the health space can integrate ESG principles into their strategic and operational activities.
Based on publicly available sources, we analysed a sample of the leading health organisations in Geneva. The overall conclusion is that the organisations do many things right but their ESG communications is unfocused and often lacks strategic prioritisation. Also, the links between programmes, the organisations own operations and their advocacy work would benefit from more holistic approaches.
